Footy Headlines leaked the new Quakes’ away kit yesterday. The kit no longer features red as the main color, but a sky-blue trim on white.
Personally, I think they need to lock down these two designs for the home and away kits, and do minor changes going forward. The black kit is awesome simply because of its throwback feel to when the Quakes returned to San Jose in 2008. The white has that “ice” look, perfect for summer. The old red/white theme should be the third jersey option.
Also interesting: the Quakes may be seeking a new kit sponsor: Ring Central. Pics of a shirt with Ring Central were leaked on Facebook a few days ago. The move would not be terribly surprising with Avaya probably pulling out of their contract with the Quakes for the naming rights to the stadium at the end of this year. Sutter Health could take over the naming rights, leaving Ring Central as the kit sponsor.
The Quakes play Reno in a preseason home opener on Saturday, and release the new kits in Alameda on Sunday.
