The Quakes announced the signing of their third Designated Player: Swedish forward Magnus Eriksson. Eriksson led Sweden’s top league, the Allsvenskan, with 14 goals in 2017.
Eriksson should be considered more of an attacking mid than a forward. He is fleet of foot and able to get behind defenders fairly quickly. Expect Eriksson to play a central-attacking role for San Jose next season.
Eriksson should also move fellow DP Vako up to forward on a permanent basis, similar to Seba Giovinco in Toronto. If Dawkins doesn’t return next season (hint: my guess is that the Quakes will buy out his contract and open up his salary and DP slot), the Quakes could/should be a running Stahre’s 4-3-3 with Wondo, Eriksson, and Vako up top, Anibal Godoy as the #6 with Hyka and Tommy on the wings.
The terms and length of the contract were not announced.
