The San Jose Earthquakes signed three Reno 1868 FC players to their senior roster: defender Jimmy Ockford and midfielders Luis Felipe Fernandes and Chris Wehan. Both Ockford and Luis Felipe played in the Quakes’ friendly versus Eintracht Frankfurt in July.
Wehan was a force in Reno, racking up 12 assists and eight goals on his way to Rookie-of-the-Year honors. Luis Felipe had five goals and three assists in 27 appearances. Ockford helped maintain Reno’s stout defensive which pitched 10 shut-outs. He also led the team in minutes (2,669) and had four goals on the season.
While the news is good for Quakes fans, it remains to be seen if these players will factor into the 20-man senior roster, or simply be part of the supplemental roster, or reserve roster. (I’m guessing all three will be supplemental roster members) Expect the players to bounce between San Jose and Reno as needed in 2018.
Welcome, Jimmy, Luis, and Chris!
