Jesse Fioranelli is in his happy place. After making moves to release several Quakes players and free up salary and international-player space, Fioranelli has resigned Anibal Godoy to two more years, signed a new head coach, and signed yet another international player.
The Quakes announced that Colombian-born defender Joel Qwiberg was signed by San Jose today, which would be the eighth international signing under Fioranelli’s watch. Other international players signed with Fioranelli at the helm include Flo Jungwirth, Marco Urena, Jahmir Hyka, Harold Cummings, Danny Hoesen (on loan), Vako, and Francois Affolter. Quakes new head coach Mikael Stahre also hails from Sweden.
Qwiberg comes from Sweden’s Division 1 team IF Brommapojkarna. He was a starter on the team which allowed the fewest goals in two straight years.
