The Earthquakes defeated the San Francisco Deltas 2-0 at home on Wednesday night to advance to the Round of 16 in the U.S. Open Cup. Jackson Yueill scored his first for the team just four minutes into the game. Cordell Cato scored the second goal just two minutes later.
However, the Deltas would not go quietly. Quakes ‘keeper Andrew Tarbell made two monster saves in the first half to keep the clean sheet, despite the Quakes running a formation with just three on the backline. The Quakes played clean defense in the second half to preserve the lead and the win.
San Jose will host the Seattle Sounders at home in the next round in two weeks (June 28). The winner will host the winner of the Sacramento Republic/L.A. Galaxy match.
