The Earthquakes PDL affiliate, the Burlingame Dragons, ran up a 5-0 scoreline on Sunday over “Classy” San Francisco City FC, courtesy of a potential diamond in the rough: Matt Wiesenfarth. Wiesenfarth (23 years old, turning 24 in August) scored four in the victory, and could be a rising star.
At UC Davis, Wiesenfarth finished tied second in overall points in school history. If I’m not mistaken, he finished his 2017 season with Sacramento Gold FC of the National Premiere Soccer League with a brace and a hat-trick in his final two games prior to Sunday’s match to earn NPSL player of the week honors. The striker appears to have mastered novice competition and is ready to be challenged at higher levels, perhaps a trial with Reno FC?
Jamel Cox also had a goal in the contest, and Dragons ‘keeper Timo Arrelano tallied the clean-sheet. It was the Dragons’ largest margin of victory in club history.
Congrats, to Burlingame and Matt Wiesenfarth!
