Deltas Net First Goal and Point in Club Debut

March 26, 2017

Last night, the San Francisco Deltas had their inaugural match versus the Indy Eleven in the North American Soccer League at Kezar Stadium.

Midfielder Kyle Bekker scored the first goal in regular season Delta history, beating the Eleven’s Jon Busch in the 30th minute off a pass from midfielder Danny Cruz. His goal was equalized by rookie Tanner Thompson off a cross from Ben Speas at 58′. The match ended in a 1-1 draw; not too shabby for a first outing.

The match boasted more than a few connections to Northern California. Former Quake defender Nana Attakora captained the SF Deltas. Former Quakes ‘keeper Jon Busch returned to the Bay Area with his 2010-13 San Jose teammate, midfielder Brad Ring, who captained the Indy squad; both played with Attakora in 2011 and 2013. Tanner Thompson, native of Loomis and brother to Quakes midfielder Tommy Thompson, netted his first professional goal in his professional debut. Indy also saw the return of former Sacramento Republic FC striker Justin Braun.

The next SF Deltas match is on April 8th versus Puerto Rico FC at Kezar Stadium.
