Montreal Impact Predictions

March 4, 2017

Opening day is finally here, and the Quakes host l’Impact de Montreal. Here are a few predictions

Line Up

Flat 4-4-2 with Bingham in goal, Lima at RB, Jungwirth and Victor at CB, and Francis at LB (I would love to see Sarkodie get the start). Tommy starting on right wing with Fatai and Godoy as your defensive mids, and Simon playing left wing. Marco Urena and Wondo up top. Subs: Tarbell, Sarkodie, Imperiale, Ceren, Cato, Hyka, and Hoesen. Expect a lot of combination play from Lima and Tommy on the right-hand side.

Montreal could have been in the MLS finals last year, and look hungry to make a run. I’m betting Piatti gets his team rolling with Odura and Mancosu on the attack in a 4-3-3 formation. I also don’t like having three non-starters from last year on the backline (Lima, Flo, and Francis), which could mean a susceptible defense with chemistry and communication. That said, I also think the Quakes get a good start from Tommy Thompson, who will get on the score sheet. The Quakes have never beaten Montreal in league play (0-3-2), which doesn’t bode well for the home side.

Final score prediction: 2-1 Montreal.
