The Quakes signed Costa Rican forward Marcos Urena to an “above the salary cap” salary with TAM. He’s no Joel Campbell (Costa Rica’s current gift to world soccer), but he does bring some scoring potential to the team.
The Quakes struggled mightily last season with goals (team worst in goals per game average). With Urena, the Quakes are stocking their corps of forwards to prevent a repeat of last season. Other preseason names include Olmes Garcia and potentially Danny Hoesen.
With Quincy out for the foreseeable future due to injury & surgery, it will be nice to see a fresh face at forward to help Wondo with the scoring load. However, the biggest problem last year was a combination of ineffective forwards and midfielders. The Quakes still have some work to do in order to blossom into a genuine scoring threat, so expect more midfielder signings soon (Jahmir Hyka?).
