If the Quakes lose tonight, they will go one calendar year without a road win. The good news: the Quakes are better than Vancouver, and should beat the Whitecaps.
Line up: The bad news: Henok Goitom is not available due to visa issues (they are playing in Canada), so Quincy will probably get his last start of the season. It’s hard not to think that Dom will run the “ineffective” 4-4-2 with Cato, Wynne, Bernardez, and Stewart on the back, Simon, Godoy, Ceren, and Quintero in the middle, and Wondo and Quincy up top. I still say Barrett should be starting, but with Goitom locked up, Goitom will be in the XI from here on out.
Player predictions: Quincy gets flagged for being in an offside position twice and puts one shot on goal (he has zero shots on goal in two games, so he’s due). Simon gets an assist and two key passes. Quintero and Wondo each get a goal. Bingham gets a clean sheet. Cato leads the Quakes in interceptions with five.
Final Score Prediction: 2-0 Quakes. The Quakes need to win on the road, they know it, their defense is good enough to get the clean sheet versus Vancouver, and Vancouver’s lack of defense (39 goals allowed; tops in the West) and recent poor form (1-2-3) allows the Quakes to get the three points and the road monkey off their back. I’m ignoring the fact the Quakes have an identical 1-2-3 record in their previous six. 😉
