Houston Match Preview

July 31, 2016

The San Jose Earthquakes are desperate for a road win, and after losing on the road to Chicago, the next best option comes today versus Houston. The Dynamo are┬álast in the West and just traded Giles Barnes, a sign they are packing it in for the season. If the Quakes don’t get a win in Houston, don’t expect the playoffs.

Predictions

Line Up: The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Yet that has been Dom’s M.O. all season, so I’ll go with the “same old” ineffective Kinnear lineup, with a few changes due to injury. Flat 4-4-2, with Cato at right-back (Sarkodie out), Wynne and Muma at center-back (Imperiale is this season’s Renato and probably won’t see any time for the rest of the year), Stewart at left-back. Dawkins on the right wing, Fatai and Godoy as the CDMs, and Quintero on the left wing. Quincy and Wondo up top. The good news is that this ineffective lineup should be effective versus a team that’s last in the West.

Player performance: I predict Quincy will get one shot on goal all game, Dawkins will get zero interceptions and zero tackles, Salinas will be subbed in at the 75′ in place of Quintero and have four crosses, MPG will be subbed in and get two key passes, and Bingham will pitch a shutout with four saves. Wynne and Muma will combine for 15 clearances.

Final Score Prediction: 1-0 Quakes, with Wondo getting his second goal in a row off a Dawkins through-ball. We’ve already beaten Houston at home 3-1, so we are the better team. Now we need to win on the road, and win we shall.

Viewing Party

The San Jose Ultras are hosting a viewing party and raffle beginning at 4pm today at 1610 Alum Rock Ave. in San Jose. I believe that’s the ADEGA restaurant. It’s always a party with the Ultras, so if you’re looking for a place to watch with a lot of singing and chanting, that’s the place to be.
