The Quakes take on Orlando City FC in Orlando. Last year the Quakes tied the Lions 1-1 at Levi’s Stadium, with Ricky Kaka making an appearance.
Notable International Absences
The Quakes will be missing forward/Captain Chris Wondolowski to international duty. Last year the Quakes were winless during his absence in the Gold Cup, and are winless this year as well. To make matters worse, the Quakes have yet to score when Wondo is missing in three matches.
Midfielder Alberto Quintero played all three Panamanian matches in the Copa America tournament, and may be given some time off as the season enters into its second half, but there ain’t a lot of options to replace him, probably Shea. Midfielder Anibal Godoy could start as he was red-carded and suspended for a game, leaving him with fresh legs for today’s match.
Midfielder Simon Dawkins picked up a groin injury during his stint with Jamaica, and is questionable. He could play, and is probably a game-time decision.
Left-back Shaun Francis is nursing a left ankle injury, and is also questionable.
Fellow left-back Kip Colvey, fresh off his stint with New Zealand which earned a Confederation’s Cup birth by winning the Oceanic Football Confederation’s Nation’s Cup, broke his finger with the All-Whites and will be out 2-4 weeks. To his credit, he did put in a lot of time with New Zealand, including going the full 120 (90 + 30 extra time) in the championship match.
Center-back Clarence Goodson is still out with a back injury and did not make the trip to Florida.
But wait, there’s more! Head Coach Dom Kinnear broke a bone in his foot and will be on crutches. Apparently Sutter Health couldn’t alleviate the Quakes’ injury curse, or the Quakes need to fire their training staff. I’m for the latter, as the Quakes are always in the injury hole with 4-5 players out every game while most MLS teams are only missing two-three players a game (look it up!).
Lineup: There’s not a lot of wiggle room given the injuries and I’m betting the Panamaniacs are on the bench to rest them up and give them playing time if we’re down. Bingham in goal, Wynne, Imperiale, Bernardez, and Stewart in the back, MPG on the right wing, Fatai at DM, Tommy in the middle, and Shea on the left wing. I’m also predicting
Chad Barrett Innocent starts with Quincy up top. Bench: Meredith, Sarkodie, Cato, Silva, Godoy, Quintero, and Jahn. Cato could get the start over Shea, as Shea’s starts have been a disaster this year. Dawkins should be resting his injury, so I’m betting he’s out. Godoy could/probably will start over Tommy if Dom decides on a flat 4-4-2.
Score: With Wondo, the Quakes are winless on the road. Without Wondo, the Quakes are scoreless and have lost twice on the road. Initially I predicted a 1-0 loss if the Quakes would be without Wondo on OCLionsFan TV (which they are), but I am going to revise it to a 1-1 draw, with
Tommy Innocent notching is first MLS goal of the season. A win would be awesome, but can we win *on the road* without Wondo? If the past two years and the previous two weeks without Wondo have shown us: probably not. Please let me be wrong!
