FC Dallas Pre-Match

October 25, 2015

Back in April, I predicted Dallas would win the Supporters’ Shield; Dallas is a win and a NYRB loss/tie from that feat.

Back in March, I wrote that the Dallas game might be the toughest game of the year, even if it was the first.  A last minute goal gave Dallas the three points, the exact hole out of which the Quakes are trying to climb to get a playoff spot.  While the first game may have been the toughest (away against the potential Supporter’s Shield champions), today’s game is the biggest.

The Quakes have the best chance to make the playoffs with a win, although it does not guarantee a spot.  A Quakes tie sets up a potential playoff spot if Sporting KC loses to L.A. in Sporting Park, but I doubt the Gals will play very hard as they are out of the Supporters’ Shield chase and will probably opt to rest their players.  We need a win against arguably the best team in MLS in their house.

With the Supporters’ Shield on the line, and a first-round bye already guaranteed, FC Dallas will probably field their full arsenal of players (just check out my pre-match from March to get an idea of what makes Dallas so potent), so don’t expect a team willing to roll over.

I’m predicting the Quakes use the 4-4-2 formation they’ve been using with Wynne and Francis at the defensive wings, Muma and Goodson at CB, MPG at right mid, Shea at left mid, Pelosi and Fatai as the defensive mids, with Wondo and Quincy up top.  Godoy is suspended for the match, so we’ll have to go it without one of our best players.

My final score prediction: 1-0 Quakes.  Why?  Dallas has beaten us 1-0 in each of the games we’ve played, it’s time to return the favor.  We play well against good teams, and Dallas games this season have been one-goal affairs.  Without Godoy, I don’t think we’ll be able to move the ball as effectively to set up a lot of scoring chances, so one goal might be all we can muster.  Plus we’ll be playing with our playoff lives on the line, while Dallas might be looking ahead to the playoffs, giving us a slight edge in intensity.

It’s #DecisionDay.  The viewing party is at Avaya.  See you there at 4pm.
