The Quakes played Houston back in May, and came away with a 1-0 victory, despite losing in almost every major category. Two shots, one on goal, was the difference. Ironically, it was the only match in which Adam Jahn has scored this season. The rematch is tonight in Avaya.
Both teams are missing significant players. The Quakes won’t have our leading goal scorer Wondo and young upstart Cordell Cato due to Gold Cup call-ups; Cato made an awesome goal yesterday for Trinidad & Tobago, continuing to prove he should be starting. We will also be without Jordan Stewart, who’s suspended through July 12, according to MLSSoccer.com. The Dynamo won’t have Giles Barnes, Boniek Garcia, Luis Garrido, or Jermaine Taylor due to international call-ups.
To add insult to injury, Referee Baldomero Toledo is reffing tonight’s match, the man who handed out red-cards like candy on Halloween to three players during the Quakes/FC Dallas match on June 7.
On the plus side, the Quakes will have Sanna Nyassi back from his yellow-card accumulation suspension, and newly acquired forward Quincy Amarikwa.
I am predicting the Quakes will use a 4-1-4-1 formation with Sherrod at the top, Nyassi at RW, Tommy and MPG as CMs, Shea as LW, Alashe as DM, and Shaun Francis replacing Stewart at LB along with Wynne, Muma and Goodson. As usual, Bingham in goal.
I’m hoping our defense isn’t missing a step with Stewart out, especially since Francis has not been playing well since his return (in my opinion), and that our offense can generate some goals without Wondo. I am predicting a 2-1 final score, with goals by Shea and Sherrod, both set up by MPG.
