The Quakes (6-5-4) are the only team to win in Seattle (9-5-2); they’ve done it twice this year. The usually-raucous CenturyLink crowd remained relatively quiet as the full impact of a Dempsey and Martins-less squad sunk in.
The Quakes had two goals, both nominated for Goal of the Week! Sanna Nyassi got the scoring going with a brilliant far-post strike at 28′. Perez Garcia doubled the lead with his own golazo at 73′. The Quakes played lock-down defense the entire match, resulting in Bingham’s fifth clean-sheet of 2015. In fact, five of the lat 10 matches have been clean-sheets. Haircuts for all!!
The key to this match going forward is that two Quakes OTHER than Wondo scored. Nyassi, who has been very Jekyll-and-Hyde this season, netted his second goal, and MPG got his first. If we can get other guys scoring, we might be able to make a good run for the playoffs, especially playing lights-out defense.
I am still worried about Jahn. One shot all game, none of goal, and lost more than 50% of his aerial duels. As a big man, he HAS to make himself big, win those duels, get in position, and make an effort to get the ball on frame. A starting forward with one shot off-target is not going to get the job done.
As usual, I nailed the final score (yeah, right. First time I’ve had a final scoreline correct all season, I believe..). 🙂
Up next, the L.A. Galaxy at Stanford on Saturday, June 29th at 7:30pm. See you there!!
