Unbelievably, Clint Dempsey was only suspended three MLS games, and no Gold Cup games, for destruction of a ref’s notebook in Seattle’s USOC match versus the Portland Timbers.
Dempsey faced a minimum of six game ban, but in what can only be described as the most lenient “punishment” possible, he basically gets a mini-vacation before the start of the Gold Cup.
I’m sorry, but this is laughable. If it were any other player, he would be out at least six games, if not more. But the U.S. can’t ban its MVP right before the Gold Cup, so in the end, Dempsey wins.
